Online Holistic Therapy for Women of Color

Compassionate Therapy for Women of Color Navigating Life’s Challenges

Having a therapist who reflects your identity and values can be so important for building trust and rapport. As a Black woman and mother, I understand how essential it is to view our experiences through a cultural lens. Finding competent and compassionate therapy for women of color can be difficult, even with the increased access to online mental healthcare. Here at Muna Wellness Therapy, I create a welcoming space to bring all parts of your identity into the session.

How Culture Plays A Role In Your Mental Health

Influences Beliefs and Perceptions: Culture shapes how we view mental health, including what we consider normal or abnormal behavior, and can impact whether we seek help or feel stigmatized for doing so.

  1. Affects Coping Mechanisms: Cultural background influences the strategies we use to cope with stress, trauma, and emotional challenges, whether through community support, spirituality, or individual resilience.

  2. Shapes Communication Styles: Culture affects how we express emotions, discuss mental health issues, and interact with healthcare providers, which can impact the effectiveness of treatment and support.

  3. Impacts Access to Resources: Cultural factors can determine how easily we access mental health resources, whether due to language barriers, lack of culturally competent care, or varying levels of trust in the healthcare system.

  4. Defines Community and Family Roles: Cultural expectations around family and community roles can influence our mental well-being, such as pressure to meet certain standards or the support we receive from loved ones.

More about me

I offer clients a comfortable space to be their authentic selves in a world that often doesn't support authenticity. I believe in the importance of exploring the various aspects of our identities, both visible and invisible. In session we talk about the impacts of culture and relationships on your emotional well-being. Together we might explore relationship and attachment patterns and identify ways to make shifts in your relationships. With a background in expressive arts therapy, I utilize creative approaches such as writing and drawing to help clients process emotions and discover new meaning in their lives. I also introduce practical skill building, so that you have tangible tools to walk away with. Collaboratively we can explore ways to refine your narratives.
